The Intern Experience Part 2

You’ve landed the job. Now what?

Congrats! You’ve finally done it: secured the big job. But now you’re probably wondering, what comes next? The interning experience can be a daunting one, but now that you’ve landed the job, it’s time to start thinking about training and getting settled into your new role.

In this edition of The Intern Experience, we’re breaking down our top tips to set yourself up for success in your internship.

1) Ask Questions:

No one expects you to know how to do everything; that’s the point of interning! The best way to learn is simply to ask. Don’t be scared, the team doesn’t bite ;)

2) Research:

As this is an agency, you will be working with clients from various industries and backgrounds. To really understand each client, make sure to research everything you need to know, from the language they use to the structure of the business. Getting familiarized with a client and industry will make your job that much easier!

3) Hands-on:

The best way to learn is to try! Truly embrace this learning experience and try to jump in on new tasks. Agency life means being a go-getter and not being afraid to try something new. The team is always there to lend a helping hand, and appreciate the extra support where you can give it.

4) Stay Organized:

As an intern, you will likely be working on a few different projects across all accounts. Staying organized and on track is vital as due dates come quickly. Whether that’s writing down tasks in an agenda or a tracking application like Asana or Google Calendar, find what systems work best for you.

5) Take Notes:

You’ll likely participate in training and onboarding in your first two weeks. This usually involves an introduction to the company, its values, the work, a high-level breakdown of your role and where you’ll be supporting the team. During this time, try to take in as much information as possible.

and last but certainly not least…….

6) Have Fun(!):

It sounds super cheesy (we know) but embrace the creative and fun side of working in PR. There are so many opportunities to see your ideas grow and come to fruition. Working with some powerhouse brands and having a hand in their success is one of the perks of being part of the Nine Point Agency team.
